Sars-Fang Centre will invite Prof. Gong CHENG from School of Medicine Tsinghua University for seminar and visiting next week.

Brief Introduction of Prof. Gong CHENG

Dr. Gong CHENG got his PhD degree in Fudan University, Shanghai, P.R. China in 2008 and worked as the postdoctoral associate in School of Medicine Yale University from 2008-2010. From 2011 till now, he is the Principal Investigator, Tsinghua University School of Medicine.

Dr. Cheng leads a research unit studying the pathogenesis and immune responses of flaviviral infections in both hosts and vectors. Dengue, Japanese encephalitis and West Nile viruses are areas of particular interest. Studies are directed at understanding the molecular basis of viral infection, virulence and transmission by animal models and patient populations.

1. Pathogenesis of mosquito-borne viruses in hosts and mosquito vectors;

2. Antiviral immunity in hosts and mosquito vectors;

3. Molecular basis of mosquito-borne virus transmission;

4. Regulation of gut commensal microbiome in insects;

5. Development of novel vaccine strategies against mosquito-borne viruses
