Fang Zongxi Center for Marine Evo-Devo (Fang Zongxi Center or FMED for short), established in 2020, performs basic research in evolutionary and developmental biology, using advanced methods of molecular/cell/computational biology and various model organisms.
Fang Zongxi Center, located at the Ocean University of China (OUC) in Qingdao, is operated with advanced international standard management and research resources. It is affiliated with the Key Laboratory of Marine Genetics and Breeding (Ocean University of China), Ministry of Education, and organizes to host 8-10 research groups with outstanding global-recruited group leaders.
The center is organized to produce new knowledge, which can then be utilized in multiple ways, to promote a rational exploitation of the oceans via fisheries, aquaculture and marine biotechnology.
To answer the call of the national marine strategy, the research groups at Fang Zongxi Center seek the understanding of the fundamental evolutionary and developmental biology process, using the cutting-edge molecular / cell / computational biology approaches. The mission of the center is to expand the boundary of human knowledge in marine biology and promote rational solutions to meet the challenges in fisheries, aquaculture, and biomedicine.
